The Traditional Scents of Christmas in my Favourite Christmas Blend: Holiday Joy!

It’s Christmas time!  Growing up I learned to associate certain aromas with Christmas. A freshly peeled orange, clove and cinnamon; especially when combined, were a part of the tradition.  Many homes burned cranberry scented candles or boiled a cinnamon stick with orange slices on the stove to create the “Smell of Christmas”.  It put everyone “in the mood”.  Think of peeling an orange.  Does the smell of a freshly squeezed orange impact you?  It’s generally perceived as  invigorating and uplifting.   Do you agree?

Christmas time is a time when I particularly appreciate diffusing essential oils.  Fortunately it resonates with most people as the pure scents are natural (found in nature), rather than chemically derived.  And they have no fillers  or preservatives unlike artificial synthetic fragrances.  You do have to be careful though.  If someone is allergic to the plant from which an essential oils is taken, chances are they will react badly to the oil.  Otherwise, the scent of essential oils has benefits  beyond  simply smelling good.  The benefits associated with essential oils you diffuse in your home will be experienced  by those with whom you share your space.  For many, Christmas a lot of work and a time of tension and loneliness.  Emotional balance nurtured by essential oils is a prized benefit; one I value very much!  And Christmas time is a good time to nurture positive vibes.

Overtime, I have experienced and come to appreciate the subtle way that essential oils alter the mood.  Just like peeling an orange is invigorating and uplifting, the natural scents of essential oils taken from plants create a variety of positive emotional responses. Diffusing at Christmas time is an opportunity to harness the benefits of essential oils while enjoying the traditional scents of Christmas as we did growing up when we stewed cinnamon and oranges, or burned scented candles.

“Holiday Joy” by doterra is a Christmas tradition in our home.  This proprietary blend combines Wild Orange, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Clove with the fresh scent of Siberian and Douglas Fir.  Holiday Joy creates a welcoming environment.  It’s primary aromatic features are spicy, warm, sweet and forest fresh; a combination which is grounding ( Siberian and Douglas Fir),  joyful (Wild Orange), engaging and warm (Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Clove).

It can be used aromatically (diffused) and topically but use topically with care as cinnamon and clove are hot oils.  You will most definitely want to use a carrier such as coconut, jojoba, or almond oil.   You could also add a couple drops to an unscented body lotion and apply.

. PRIMARY BENEFITS

• Uplifts mood and enlivens the senses
• Purifies and freshens the air and home
