Allergies: The Full Circle of Ancient Wisdom

Hypocrates, the father of medicine said all those years ago, that “health begins in the gut”.  Fast forward to present day wherein science is discovering how true that statement is!  Gut health is discussed in relation to many medical conditions.  Of interest here is the connection of gut health and allergies.  The American  Journal  of Nutrition suggests that probiotics could be instrumental in this regard.  Many natural health practitioners have known and operated from this premise but it is encouraging that such wisdom is getting attention in traditional western medicine.   Hypocrates was way ahead of his time!

Probiotic Support for Allergies.

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, there may be an association between gut bacteria and allergies.  When gut bacteria is imbalanced, allergies sometimes emerge.  Gut bacteria often becomes imbalanced throughout life due to stress, diet, illness, medication, and modern farming techniques.  Aging itself can cause an imbalance.  Maintaining healthy guts can become a problem for anyone.   It is now widely accepted that probiotics are helpful in restoring balance within  our gut.  Probiotics are a mixture of live organisms and/or yeast often called “good” or “helpful” bacteria that  help keep your gut functioning properly. They exist naturally within the system but sometime  get overwhelmed by the “bad” bacteria introduced throughout life’s journey.  Herein lies the connection between probiotics and allergies.  If we can keep our gut healthy with probiotics, and the American journal of Nutrition is correct in their statement that allergies are related to gut health, probiotics could reduce your allergic reactions.  Perhaps health really does begin in the gut.  Thank you for your wisdom Hipporcrates!

I take a Probiotic called PB Assist

PB assist is the most requested doterra supplement in Canada!  It is a proprietary formula of pre-biotic fiber and six strains of probiotic microorganisms in a unique double- layer vegetable capsule.

The time-release, double-capsule delivery system helps protect the sensitive probiotic cultures allowing them to travel to the lower GI where they are needed.  Thi doubled chambered delivery system makes PB assist a good choice because otherwise probiotics are absorbed before reaching the large colon.  Or they are damaged by the over growth of bad bacteria in the small intestine when the reach the lower GI.  They could even be  damaged by stomach acids.

Pre-biotics are combined with probiotics in PB assist.  This is important because once the probiotics make the journey to the large intestine, they are supported.  Pre-biotics are a type of fiber that the human body cannot digest. They serve as food for probiotics thereby encouraging friendly bacterial growth.

PB assist delivers 6 billion CFUs of active probiotic cultures and soluble pre-biotic FOS (fructooligosaccharides).   This may be a lower count than some probiotics but due to the unique double capsuled delivery system, it is all you need to restore a healthy balance of microbes in the gut and colon.

PB Assist and Allergies

Just prior to allergy season, set the stage for a healthy defense by nurturing balance of “good” and “bad” bacteria in your gut.  Take 1 PD assist with each meal for 10 days.  For the remainder of allergy season, take 1 PB assist per day for maintenance.
